Money matters: Defending Valero Texas Open champion Adam Scott was on hand Tuesday when organizers for the tournament and Benefit for Children Golf Classic announced a record fundraising total of $9 million for children's charities.
It was the highest charity haul in tournament history and likely will again rank in the top three among all tour events this season.
"It's an incredible effort, especially this day and age," Scott said Wednesday. "You know, we all know it's such a big part of the PGA Tour, and it's nice that the players can get involved every now and again and see some of the effort that goes on behind the scenes.
"We get to play and enjoy playing golf, but so much goes on behind the scenes that's much more important than the entertainment that we're doing."
Spurs of the moment: Former Spurs players Bruce Bowen and Michael Finley were back on a team together when they took part in the Oak Dairy Farms Charity Pro-Am at AT&T Oaks Course. Bowen and Finley, both superb golfers, were part of the group with touring pro Pat Perez. Their total 12-under 60 score placed them in the top five for the event.
Coming and going: Bob Estes, who captured the Texas Open title in 1995, was added to this year's field when Matt Bettencourt withdrew for undisclosed reasons. Estes, 44, is an Abilene native and former University of Texas star.
