| Windows 8 Confirmed by Microsoft Posted: 24 May 2011 09:18 AM PDT inally, Microsoft has now confirmed the existence of a "Windows 8" OS as CEO Steve Ballmer (pictured) announced it during the company's developer forum held in Japan. Although Ballmer did not dish out the dirt about the upcoming OS, he did indicate that the "next generation of Windows systems" will be released net year. He also teased that "there's a whole lot more coming," which would include "slates, tablets, PCs, (and) a variety of form factors." ZDNet noted the distinction between "slates" and "tablets" as two separate form factors, which could be interesting unless Ballmer used two terms pertaining to one device. Another interesting insight is that he did not use the name "Windows 8″ regarding the next-gen Windows systems. Perhaps we will hear more about it in the coming days, particularly during the D9 conference where Microsoft's Windows chief, Steven Sinofski, would appear. |

| Posted: 24 May 2011 09:15 AM PDT veryone always go through bouts of rage and anger at one time or another. It is always hard to just bottle it up and keep it inside all of the time. There are many times that you would want some sort of release to ease up. The RageGage Smash Pad may be the high tech alternative to venting your rage when you need to. | New Xbox 360 Updates Connect Users with PayPal and Get Bricked Posted: 24 May 2011 09:12 AM PDT Microsoft has unveiled updates to the Xbox 360 that adds new features such as linking the user's PayPal account to the gaming console (at least in some countries) and a tweaked standby mode. Apart from the update, which will arrive in two weeks, Microsoft has revealed they received complaints from a lot of gamers claiming the recent firmware update for the Xbox 360, which supposed to add support for the new expanded disc capacity feature, is not working well in some units. It prevents "a very small number of Xbox 360 owners" from playing game discs, manifesting itself as "disc unreadable" on the screen. Microsoft has since reached out to the complaining users to have their consoles replaced with a brand-new 250GB Xbox 360 S and a year of Xbox Live Gold access. If your Xbox 360 is also suffering the same problem, contact Microsoft immediately. |

| Google Acquires Modu Patents for US$4.9 Million Posted: 24 May 2011 09:05 AM PDT Back in the day, there used to be a modular cell phone brand in Israel called Modu. The company made small cell phones that can be slipped into different sleeves so it can perform different actions and functions. It was picked up by a handful of carriers, but sad to say Modu declared bankruptcy, leaving its employees unpaid and its creditors shaking their heads. But last May 20, it has been announced that Google has bought Modu's patent portfolio to the tune of US$4.9 million. The tech media begin to speculate what the software giant is planning to do. Some say it might resuscitate the long-forgotten phones, while others guess Google might incorporate Modu's technology into upcoming Android versions. Another group, meanwhile, thinks that it could all be just a case of collecting patents to defend Android against the numerous IP suits being hurled their way. It could also be the reason why the search engine beast is trying to acquire a number of Nokia patents. Whatever the reason, let's hope something good would come out of it, at least in a consumer perspective. |
